Al Jazeera tries to corner Rodrigo Duterte with tough questions about his war on drugs ~Share

The most striking phrase Duterte said was ''I have to strike fear' to fight the drug problem.  Weak leaders will never say this because they are incapable of striking fear. Fear is the only weapon the criminals understand and respect.

"We have three million drug addicts, and it's growing. So if we do not interdict this problem, the next generation will be having a serious problem ... You destroy my country, I'll kill you. And it's a legitimate thing. If you destroy our young children, I will kill you. That is a very correct statement. There is nothing wrong in trying to preserve the interest of the next generation.

This is part one of two interviews.

    1. Prove it. or what you're saying is nonsense.

    2. Nothing to prove. His statements says it all. Ha said he planted intrigues and evidence. What proof are looking for?

      Delete
    3. When did he deliberately say that he planted evidence? If he did where is this evidence. Don't you think that so called evidence is enough to oust him? If his critics can't present this evidence then it's non sense.

  4. How does he even measure a leader to even label them as weak? Just because someone is incapable of striking fear, that already means a person is weak? Can't it be that they just respect human life & drug addicts deserve another chance to reform themselves? Every country that fought the drug menace had already said that they have proven inciting fear & fighting crime with crime will not solve the problem. Duterte has a rigid mind. He won't even admit that HS drug war in Davao wasn't even successful. 4,000 druggies surrendered in Davao recently according to news reports. So why should I believe he has a successful formula to fight drugs? He's so good at twisting things & facts. He's so good at putting up an act as if he knows his numbers & facts. It's been proven that he had released some information he failed to verify & when found inaccurate, he had to publicly apologize. How gullible, irresponsible & unbecoming of a leader. I am not impressed at all! Sorry, nice try!

    2. Then why not ask the previous gov abt this drug menace in the country?..and why drugs became rampant under their watch?......duterte is doing everything he can to solve this problem.....my goodness do u expect dat he can solve all these problems in just 100 days?...dat even the previous admin didnt do wat duterte did in 100 days for their 6yrs in gov?...its bcz u guys are just looking for his mistakes and turned blind for the good things he had done in just 100 days....shame on u

    3. didn't give a chance? pres. du30 gave them time to surrender. and for those who surrendered, the gov't is currently building a mega rehabilitation center in nueva ecija. is it not a chance? yes! du30 makes mistakes.. because no one is perfect.. and if pres. du30 makes mistakes, we should also give him a chance and not to judge him right away.. The good thing with him is that he is willing to accept his mistakes.

    4. give the drug addicts a 2nd chance, how about an 8 year old girl raped by 4 guys who is high on drugs, and recently an old women also raped by an addict take note a child and an old woman, wala na po silang pinipili, dont you care or even feel bad about these people why the drug addicts need a 2nd chance while the innocent victims cant have a 2nd chance. He is making changes to our country to have a safer, drug free, to live not only for us but for the next generations for your future grand children....why dont you just appreciate what his doing.

    5. Then you should run as president in the next election! Let's see when u see the real situation of drugs in this country... Oh wait a minute, i don't even think u could get a thousand votes at all so dont bother making a plan... so just for now, mind ur own business, if u have nothing good to say, shut up ka na lang.. wag mong hintayin sau at sa pamilya mo ang mabiktima ng mga adik!

    6. What Davao do you want to mean to have 4000 druggies? There are so many Davao, to enumerate Davao City, Davao Del Sur, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Davao Occidental. Which one? Know your geography followed by authenticated number of druggies who surrendered. Don't just anyhow say just to comment.

      Delete
    7. Haha yeah...which of the DAVAOs has 4000 druggies? Goshhh! I think you don't even know what you're talking about. Have you been to Davao yet? and where in Davao?

    11. Change is a rocky pathway. Along the way there will be causalty. The soft staunch on drugs for the last 30 years gave these criminals enough leeway to change. And they never intend to. And before you cast aspersion to the current administration, know the capability and intent of the drug pushers and drug lords. They do not comply to the police, they intend to kill any law enforcement that gets in their way. See how bad the drug situation in Mexico that people flee their homes from fear of drug pushers? I do not wish my country to be like that, but i would love to see these pushers cower to a twig from fear if this will bring resolve to our country's problem old enough to be noticed by gat Jose Rizal.

Now, i do not blame you. You do not want change because it is normal for people to live on with their habits. Traffic jam every day, corruption on all branches of government, castigating victims than perpetrators.

    12. i am replying to you not to impress. Running a country is tough. First world, third world. The problems are of great magnitude. Duterte is here not to impress on you. This is not a beauty contest my dear. You are naive. Why do you think Roxas did not win? He has impressive ancestral family- and what nots; a lot of other candidates are noteworthy. Do they have teeth?

    13. The President is correct to say that 4 million is 4 million . . . this is a serious problem. When you have 4 million drug addicts and/or drug dependents in a small country like ours, is a very serious problem. Construction and operating Rehabilitation centers is not the solution, the root cause must be eliminated. Imagine, how large facility (rehab center) do we need to accommodate the 4 million drug dependents.

    16. try to think this way, killing an addict is wrong or killing an innocent because of addicts is wrong?!?!?! what would it be?!?!? u cant tell us Filipinos what is correct because we know what is right for us.. we are the only ones who knows what will be the best for our country.. WE WANT TO BE A DRUG-FREE COUNTRY!! because drugs is the main reason why our country is corrupt.. in doing so, stop being blind just because you read some nonsense reports of how our country is be run by our President.. stop comparing our President now with our presidents before because nothing was done in the past.. there were rapes (children, women, grandma, parents and etc) because of drugs, homicide, holdup and killings all over the country because of drugs.. we cant give 2nd chances to these people because they are the reason why alot of children, women, even mothers and grandmothers being raped, killed.. do you think, those addicts gave 2nd chances for them to live?!!? THINK THINK AND THINK..

    17. Precisely you have the tokhang. It's the first step. Hangyo is visayan for request or plead, SO, the govt is pleading that you give up drugs. This is the first step to weeding out the grain fr the chaff. Once u surrender & submit urself to accepting ur problem, then there's rehab. THAT IS WHY THERE'S A NATIONWIDE PROJECT FOR REHAB CENTERS. Now, this tokhang is giving addicts, pushers drug lords to COME CLEAN. When you do not avail, then thats the time ur really in trouble bcos not only the police will be arresting you, other addicts, pushers, drug lords will be huntung you. And in that situation, govt CAN'T guarantee ur safety. Ang hirap ba isipin nito?

      Delete
    18. Also, i strongly feel that each of us SHOULD be responsible for our actions. If ur an addict, that's ur decision. We should not romanticize addiction & say kasi mahirap. Thousands of poor people hv pulled themselves up by their own bootstraps just to get themselves out of the mire. Maraming successful people who began in the most humble way. They persevered & had faith in themselves. Now if you take drugs bcoz life is miserable, then that is your decision & u should take responsibility. Take it like a man (or woman.) we should not feel that society or govt should have bleeding hearts for them. Compassion yes but tough love too.

      Delete
    19. Janette Hernandez. Fear is the only language that addicts, pushers, drug lords & other criminals know. You have to know the ways of the criminal mind because you don't go through the dark alleys of life singing lah-di-dah. Why do policemen, soldiers go through tough training? Because they have to strike fear on the enemy. They have to know when to apply brute force. It is not a place for conciliatory talks or group hugs. Wake up to the reality bcoz when someone is looking at the end of a barrel of a gun, THAT IS THE REALITY, whether you are a policeman or a drug addict.

    20. Oh and by the way, in case it escaped you, Duterte was referring to the criminals when he mentioned fear, not to the Filipino people. Let's make that clear. There's been a lot of twisting & shaking going on.

    23. Jeanette hernandez lets just not hope you and your family doesn't suffer any harm from drug addicts because if it happens lets see how you change your views, lets see if you will be giving them a 2nd chance lets see your respect to human life.

    24. In my perspective, Duterte is much better than the previous administration. Why? Because noneof the previous administration makes a rapid changes like eliminating tanim bala modus, doing oplan
tokhang, making smoking van and war on drugs. Does the previous administration can make what Duterte administration did on their 100 days of term. Does the Yolanda Victims received full assistance from the past government. Why do drugs continuously spreading?that is because drug lords have power over government but their game is over because through PDU30 they might say that not all politicians can be paid by money. Our country was now known because the Filipinos did a good choice in voting for Duterte. This is administration is better than before and will be more better if everyone of us will support him on his war on drugs.

Do they deserve respect??? when infact they will dis-respect innocent and even kill one. i hate to tell this u gurl that your comments speaks about your selfish personnality...I myself can tell...u dont have ur LoveOnes...we want to live with our families and friends with dignity...and not die as a victims of drug addicts and criminals...think gurls...u know who u are...realized!!! youl become a lady with respect...

Now the question is ---- who among them will do that? Who is the brave mouse who will risk his life trying to put a bell on the cat's neck? You? Duterte just did. He risked his own life, his own family's life to try and solve the drug problem. You're not impressed? Boohoo! You, can you do this? I don't think so.

(not impressed with your stupid statement)

    29. as if PDU30 is working to impress you? Hmmm... you are a fool who are blinded by your prejudice, you cannot even see the things he has done in a just a very short 100 days. baka sabihin mong wla? ito po mga yon: namimigay ng mga bangka sa mga mangingisda for free, ginawang mas madali na ang transactions sa mga public offices, at nawala na ang SOP at fixers, corruptions, marami ng naging regular na workers na dati ay laging contractual basis, 1 stop shop sa mga OFW, pagpatupad sa FOI bill na noon pa man pinapangako ni Pnoy na ipapatupad, pero pangakong napako( lier pnoy),at dodblihin ang budget sa infratracture na makakatulong sa pag unlad ng pinas. so hindi mo nakita yan?

Isa pa, you said" drug addicts deserve a second chance" adik ka siguro ano? ilang taon na ba silang adik? bakit hindi pa sila nagbago? ngayong hinuhuli na sila sasabihin mong they need a second chance? paano yong pinapatay, nirirape nila? wla ng second chance, di ba? ang bobo mo? tumahimik ka na lang kung wla kang masasabing solusyon sa problema ng Pinas.
