Transparency International: Corruption In the Philippines Has Dropped Significantly

Based on Transparency International's Corruption Perceptions Index for the year 2013, corruption in the Philippines dropped from a high of 139th place in 2009 during the Presidency of Gloria Macapagal Arroyo down to 94th place in 2013 under President Benigno Aquino III.

Transparency International (TI) is a non-governmental organization that monitors and publicizes corporate and political corruption in international development. Originally founded in Germany in May 1993 as a not-for-profit organization, Transparency International is now an international non-governmental organization.

It publishes an annual Corruption Perceptions Index, a comparative listing of corruption worldwide. The headquarters is located in Berlin, Germany.
The organization defines corruption as the abuse of entrusted power for private gain which eventually hurts everyone who depends on the integrity of people in a position of authority.
