I do not understand why incoming Senate President Koko Pimentel gave De Lima who is Duterte's arch-critic the position of Chairwomen of a sensitive position in the senate.
Politics.com.ph reported that De Lima criticized the president for exposing the five generals who are protectors of drug lords saying that Duterte violated 5 ‘narco generals’ rights to due process.
Just recently, incoming Senate President Koko Pimentel gave the Chair of the Senate justice committee to De Lima who has been very critical of then Mayor Duterte in the past. Pimentel has practically empowered De Lima so she can conduct hearing after hearing to slow down the reforms in our country.
Did Koko Pimentel give the post to De Lima just to snatch the senate presidency from Alan Cayentano? To push the agenda of President Duterte for change in this country, it is important that he gets the support of the senate and the congress. How is that possible when he gave sensitive positions to Drilon, Sotto, Lacson, & De Lima who are known critics of Duterte.
While it is true that Drilon and Lacson have softened their rhetoric against Duterte, their support might be missing when crucial votes are needed to pass laws that will make Duterte's job easier to foster change for this country.
Shown below is the Politics.com.ph titled De Lima: Duterte violated 5 ‘narco generals’ rights to due process. Your opinions are important. Please leave a comment to share your thoughts.
Neophyte Sen. Leila de Lima has weighed in on the shame campaign launched by President Duterte against five police generals allegedly linked to illegal drugs.
While Duterte showed seriousness in the anti-drug campaign, de Lima noted there could be a violation of the rights to due process for the five concerned individuals.
“Sa tingin ko yung name and shame tact adopted by our President has both a plus and a minus.
On one hand it demonstrates yung seriousness, yung determination niya to really stamp out criminality and corruption especially official corruption, corruption within the PNP ranks, between and among the PNP officials. So that’s the plus,” she said.
“On the other hand, syempre, may violation dyan ng due process,” the former justice secretary said.
“There is still presumption of innocence and therefore, they are entitled to be heard. They should not be put and subjected to trial by publicity,” de Lima said.
De Lima was asked about Duterte’s decision to publicly humiliate retired Gen. Marcelo Garbo, former police officer and now local mayor Vicente Loot and active generals Joel Pagdilao, Ernesto Tinio and Bernardo Diaz. Duterte has sought a probe of the five generals and has refused to present any evidence to back up his expose so far.
My personal personal assessment is,Koko is getting semphaty from the majority opposition to fast tract the ammenmend of the constitution in creation of the federalism.but this kind of strategy is high risk of the duterte's admin if he fail to get the appreciation of the opposition
ReplyDeleteNo Senate President can give nor appoint any Committee Chairman. It is the Senate Majority which decides. Koko is the lone PDPLABAN Member of the Senate. You don't like de Lima? then elect enough Senators from the Party.
