I was shocked when I saw this Inquirer.net post on Facebook stating that 237 people died in one day. Knowing Inquirer's tabloid style headline I got suspicious.
True enough, when I read the article "Bato" simply gave updated list and simply wanted to give an accurate number to the senate.
Drillon tried to pin down "Bato" but couldn't. Below are excerpt from their exchange.
Drilon:
Overall, you said yesterday that there were 1,779 deaths, today it increased to 1,916. Does it mean that in the past 24 hours, 237 died?”
Bato:
Not necessarily your honor, we are updating, your honor, there were new discoveries.
You would be more alarmed, your honor, if we decreased the figures—the dead people yesterday become alive today.
But it’s the contrary, the alive people today were now dead so the number increased because of police operations, aggressive police operations
The basis of my comment is the Inquirer.net article titled Drilon grills Bato on mounting deaths of drug suspects.
Please share your thoughts by leaving a comment.
How many years has Drillon been a senator? In those years, how many bills has he passed to curb the ever growing iliegal drug problem of the Philippines? Why is he against the action of the present administration to stop this drug menace once and for all?
