Duterte consoles the Sept 2 Roxas Avenue Davao night market bombing victims

Duterte visits the September 2, 2016 bombing victims of the  night market along Roxas Avenue Davao in Davao. The Abu Sayyaf claimed responsibility.

In a separate report by SunStar Daily, chief Dr. Leopoldo Vega of the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) said that the shrapnels found in the bodies of the Davao City night market explosion victims were similar to the ones found in the bodies of those who died in the bombings at the Davao airport and Sasa Wharf in 2003.

SPMC is one of the hospitals that treated the victims of the explosion at the night market on corner Padre Gomez St., Roxas Avenue, Davao City around 9:50 p.m., Friday, September 2.

Police, however, said that investigation is ongoing as of this posting, 3:40 a.m. Saturday.

Davao experienced to bombings in the past.

  • The Davao International Airport which was bombed on March 4, 2003. The blast killed 22 people and injured 143 others.
  • The Sasa Wharf bombing on April 2, 2003 left 17 dead and 56 people injured.
